The Leeds Child Development Center, located in Manhasset, was founded by philanthopists Gerry & Lilo Leeds. The Leeds Center opened in 1989 with three children and in 2007, Brookville Center for Children’s Services acquired the Leeds Center and incorporated the special education program within this renowned child developmental program.

The Leeds Center serves 173 children from the ages of 8 weeks to five years of age, both with and without developmental disabilities. The program is open to the community and provides financial scholarships available to qualifying families. The program currently has 4 infant rooms (with a 4:1 ratio), 4 toddler rooms (with a 5:1 ratio), and 6 integrated preschool classrooms. The integrated preschool classrooms have a 15:1:2 ratio [15 students (8 children without developmental delays and 7 children with developmental delays), 1 Special Education Teacher, and 2 teacher assistants].

The Leeds Center follows an educational and play-based curriculum provided in a warm, friendly, home-like atmosphere. The Leeds Center currently has a multifunctional art room and a computer lab with the latest technology. In addition, the art room houses a multipurpose Smart Board. Additional Smart Boards are available in designated Preschool Classrooms. The Leeds Center has an activity/physical education room and an outside playground with physical education equipment for play and exercise. The program also provides music once a week to all of the children. Safety and security measures include security cameras throughout the building, emergency panic/medical buttons in each room, and a secure lobby area at the entrance.
