Children Education Center Graduates, Their Classmates, and Residential Services Residents Enjoy A Prom
A Night We’ll Never Forget
The Children’s Education Center Prom, which took place at the AHRC Nassau Mansion on Friday, June 14, was a night to be remembered, Prom Night!
“We wanted to give our kids the same experience that many of their peers have, that their siblings have,” said Children’s Education Center Director Denise Gaughan. “You could see how excited they were to socialize with their friends who may not be in their classroom. We’re very excited to end the year with the prom. That’s their age. That’s what they should be doing.”
Graduates of the Children’s Education Center, their classmates, residents of the Children’s Residential Program (CRP), staff and families, dressed to the nines, were ready for the long anticipated evening.
On the day of the prom, the students had fun getting glammed up and ready to celebrate. Hope Sergliano, a CRP resident, was looking forward to wearing her favorite color, blue. She made sure her dress, headband, and shoes were all in her favorite color. Hope said she was excited to have fun. Direct Support Professional (DSP) Francesca Pierre, who works with Hope, said she was excited to be at the prom with the girls, “What smiles on their faces!”
Miles Semilof said he’s been looking forward to the evening, especially seeing some of his classmates and dancing. When asked what he was looking forward to the most, he said that he’ll see what the night brings.
“We are very excited for all the boys,” said Brandon Semilof, Miles’ dad. “All week, from getting his tux to his hair cut, he has been anticipating this day. I think this prom is awesome. It’s great. I’m so happy that they’re doing this. We’ve been involved with BCCS for a while, and this is special.”
Miles along with his friends from the CRPs traveled to the prom via Party Bus.
As they headed into the mansion, guests walked the red carpet, building the energy for the evening and capturing amazing photos. Parents and staff cheered as the students walked down the red carpet, smiling for the camera. The students were thrilled to see each other outside of school, and parents had the option to drop off their children or stay and join the party.
Inside, guests were greeted by show-stopping decorations and a dinner prepared and served by our volunteering staff members. The night was filled with friends, music, dancing, food and fun as everyone experienced this milestone together as a community. The DJ and disco lights kept the dance floor alive, making Prom Night truly unforgettable for everyone!
