Sign Our Petition to Increase Funding for Preschools and Schools Supporting Students With Disabilities
Currently, the New York State Senate and Assembly are reviewing Governor Cuomo’s budget, which sadly leaves out funding critical to sustaining our preschool and school age programs for children with autism. This absence of funding will also impact other nonprofits providing educational services for children with intellectual/developmental disabilities; however, you can help us ensure that the legislature and Governor allocate additional resources for our programs.
where Victor and Deirdre Cangialosi, QSAC parents, shared why these additional funds are so important. Further, the petition will help to show how many parents, educators, support professionals, and advocates for the disability community stand alongside QSAC and hundreds of other nonprofits in asking for additional support for our schools and preschools.
Statewide, we are asking the Governor for an additional $18-million to support salary increases for certified teachers. These additional funds will help us to retain outstanding educators while also helping us attract additional highly-qualified teachers to support our students.
We are also asking for a 4% tuition increase for our preschool and school programs. This increase will enable us to ensure that our students have access to the same quality education as promised under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
These funds will help us retain educators and staff. Our students, educators, and support professionals can no longer afford to wait for additional resources from the State. We must work together to ensure that Albany understands the need for this additional funding, so that our schools and preschools are well-positioned to support all of our students in realizing their full potential.
