School Year Begins at Brookville Center for Children’s Services

Across the Children’s Education Center, Barbara C. Wilson Preschool, Marcus Avenue Preschool, and Post Avenue Preschool, dedicated staff eagerly waited outside, waving at the new and returning students. Staff accompanied the students to their classrooms, where they would meet their teachers and classmates.

“The first day of school is always an exciting time for students and staff,” said Debra Doyle, Senior Director of Brookville Center for Children’s Services. “We hope everyone had the chance to rest and rejuvenate over the summer break as we prepared our schools and curriculums to ensure an educational, enriching, and fun school year.”A BCCS student sells snacks at the Snack Shack

Though exciting, the first day of school can be challenging for students and their families, who will now be spending school days apart. Post Avenue Preschool addressed this by holding Open School Nights giving parents the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers, see the classrooms, and learn about their daily routines.

The Marcus Avenue Parent’s Association held its back-to-school night on the September 19, welcoming new and returning parents with a reception full of treats and goodies. They also toured the school to meet staff and learn about the program.

At Barbara C. Wilson Preschool, the Parent Association hosted “Popsicles in the Park” at Syosset Woodbury Park Playground, where families enjoyed playtime and frozen treats together.

“It’s all about getting to know the children, adjusting their programs as needed, and setting up their educational journey for success,” added Diane Condy, Director of the Barbara C. Wilson Preschool.

Building on these efforts to foster connection and familiarity, preschoolers at the Children’s Education Center in Brookville had fun getting to know each other during the Preschool Exchange, an activity where classrooms open up and students freely mix and mingle. Meanwhile, school-age students got back into the groove with Friday Fun Day activities in the gym.

With all this positivity at the start of the school year, it’s guaranteed to be a fun, educational, and happy school year.
