As students shopped for books and supplies, their classmates in the Transition Program took on specific roles at the cash register. Some students were responsible for scanning items, others for giving change, and a few for bagging purchased books and supplies.

“I did the money,” said Isabella Handley, adding she enjoyed seeing fellow classmates’ purchases. “They’ve been doing great,” said Nicholas Tremaroli, Physical Education Teacher, about the Transition students. “Learning to use cash registers and bag items prepares them for real-world jobs.”

After working, Isabella shopped and bought Squishmallows and Disney Princess stickers. Staff also shopped, knowing proceeds support the school for books and resources.

To ensure all students could take home books or supplies, the school community contributed to a “Share the Fair” account. Many students plan their purchases using the Scholastic catalog and are excited to find their books on the shelf.

“It’s so fun. They love it,” Denise said. “Anything they show interest in is going to foster that love of reading, which enhances their communication. Even if we’re reading to them, they are hearing words and getting excited.”

Thank you to everyone who contributed to another wonderful book fair and opportunity to share the joy of reading with students!
