BCCS Evaluation Services: Exploring Options

Questioning if your child should be evaluated for a developmental delay or disability can be a stressful and uncertain time for the whole family. Brookville Center for Children’s Services is here to answer your questions and provide you with the best resources that we have to offer.

Early Intervention (EI) Evaluations

Children between the ages of birth to 3 years old with a suspected developmental delay may be evaluated to determine eligibility for services upon referral from the Nassau or Suffolk County Department of Health (depending on where you live).

Every evaluation assesses each child’s motor, language, cognitive, adaptive, and social-emotional development. If eligible for services, individualized goals are designed to meet the needs of each child and family. Services are then provided in the setting that best suits the needs of each child and family by using a multidisciplinary approach. BCCS is committed to assisting each child in achieving their full potential within their natural environments.

Preschool Evaluations

BCCS is a New York State Education Department approved preschool evaluation site and conducts CPSE evaluations for students living in Nassau and Suffolk counties and New York City.

Evaluations are administered at our Marcus Avenue Preschool and are conducted throughout the school year and in the summer. A team of qualified professionals with different areas of experience and training work together to assess children’s cognition, speech and language skills, physical abilities, social skills, and other essential areas of development.

Our licensed/certified professionals conduct the following types of evaluations:

Students currently enrolled in BCCS needing supplemental evaluations: Please contact your child’s team or school district for assistance.

Placement Steps after Evaluations

Once the evaluation is complete and it is determined that your child is eligible for our preschool or early evaluation services, families will receive a list of approved providers from their school district for ages 3 and up or their local health department for ages under 3.

If you are interested in BCCS for your child’s preschool, the school district will send your information packet. Then, if there is an appropriate placement available, your family will be contacted to come and tour our school(s).

Families with preschool or school aged children who are interested in BCCS’ early intervention services (including speech therapy, occupational therapy, and/or physical therapy) without school placement should contact our Home & Community Program. At this time, we will determine if an appropriate provider is available.
