Round Hill Road Preschool’s Parents’ Association (PA) is welcoming new members and showing just how meaningful that involvement can be. Through activities like holiday luncheons, seasonal fairs, and entertaining shows, the PA supports students and teachers year-round. This February, the PA launched a Valentine’s-themed pretzel fundraiser featuring heart-shaped pretzels.
Spearheaded by parent volunteers, with support from Margarite Tagliaferro, School Psychologist at Round Hill Round, the pretzel sale was the first fundraiser organized this year.
“This helps the kids so that they have stuff to do and the staff because they do so much,” said Amanda Sproul, PA member. Amanda is an active PA member. For the last two years she’s supported fundraising activities including the Scholastic Book Fairs. She and Deniqua Murray, fellow PA member, took the lead organizing the pretzel fundraiser.
Deniqua managed the orders with Philly’s Pretzel Factory and worked with Amanda to package them for the children to take home
“My mom posted it on Facebook,” Deniqua said. “We received a lot of orders from family and friends.” Deniqua herself ordered 34 pretzels to benefit the school.
The Round Hill Road community strongly supported the fundraiser, purchasing over 200 pretzels and raising over $400 to benefit students and staff. There were also independent donations from family members who opted to support the school directly in lieu of ordering pretzels.
The fundraiser was launched in January, and students were given flyers to take home to their families. Orders came in by February 6, and delivered for students to take home on February 13, just in time for families to enjoy the salty treats on Valentine’s Day.
The Round Hill Road PA is actively welcoming parents willing to lend a hand and share fundraising ideas to support the school. As Amanda and Deniqua’s children will complete their second year of school this year, they will no longer be a part of the PA. Their message for current and upcoming parents is “Join!”
“Think of it as an investment,” Deniqua said. “Think about how happy your kids will be to see you at their school, randomly. Think about the smile you’ll put on their faces and the help you can provide to the school.”
Being part of the PA is a great way to build community with parents who share lived experiences. PA participation also welcomes the opportunity for students and parents to develop long term relationships outside of school.
Any Round Hill Round parent interested in joining the PA can reach out via Class Dojo or contact Margarite Tagliaferro directly at mtagliaferro@broovillecenter.org.
The PA is actively planning activities for the spring and welcomes parents who are willing to get involved.
