BCCS Provides School-Age Special Education Services
The partnership between the student, teacher, and family in a setting dedicated to supporting the needs of individuals with disabilities creates an exceptional learning environment where every level of success and achievement is celebrated. BCCS helps students transition into adulthood and provides a well-coordinated, individualized plan beginning in early adolescence (age 14).
Brookville Center for Children’s Services is approved by NYSED to provide education services for school-age students (ages 5-22) with developmental disabilities, multiple disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and autism. Students are educated using evidence-based curricula driven by NYSED Standards, Standards for Education (SED), their Individual Education Plan (IEP), and their age, social, emotional, and academic needs.
Inside the Learning Environment of Our School-Age Classroom
Each student follows a personalized curriculum tailored to their unique needs outlined in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Classes are structured to address students’ developmental requirements, emphasizing practical skills essential for daily life and future success.
Our school-age student classes are held at our Children’s Education Center Campus. We adhere to a 12-month education calendar, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with specific expectations for students and parents. The classroom ratios are (# of students, # of teachers, # of teacher aides) 12:1:2, 10:1:2, 9:1:3, 8:1:2, 6:1:2, 6:1:3.5*
*This enables teachers to better tailor their instruction to the unique needs of each child and adjust their teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and individual pacing. The smaller class size also ensures each child’s development is nurtured effectively.
