Fall Session Starts for BCCS Students

September 3 marked the beginning of a new chapter in learning and friendship at the BCCS Children’s Education Center as well as the Barbara C. Wilson (BCW), Marcus Avenue and Post Avenue Preschools.

At the Children’s Education Center, eager students arrived on campus by school bus, ready for their first day of the fall session. In front of the school buildings, staff members waited outside, looking forward to welcoming students and walking them to their classrooms.

Students ran from the buses to greet their favorite staff members with hugs, high fives, and smiles before heading to their classrooms.

Over at the Barbara C. Wilson Preschool, new and returning students also became acquainted with their teachers, teacher assistants, classmates, and classrooms.

Parents involved in the Parents’ Association hosted a Picnic in the Park on Sept. 13, so that the parents and students could get to know each other more. The picnic is just the start of many events that will bring the BCW community closer together.

All the therapists are really available for us with a lot of questions,” said Brianne Stark, the new Parent Association President, whose child is returning to BCW for a second year. “They make sure the kids are definitely in the right classrooms, with the right teachers, getting all that support.”

Brianne added that BCW just feels like home.

In Westbury, Post Avenue Preschool students passed the familiar white farmhouse-style entrance—or experienced it for the first time—to reach their classrooms. Teachers and staff greeted students with open arms and snapped photos of new classmates in front of the “Welcome to Preschool” banner by the playground.

For Post Ave., the first week of the fall session emphasized self-discovery and exploration through activities that sparked students’ curiosity.

In art, we will make portraits. During music, we will incorporate identifying body parts. At the playground, we will talk about the muscles in our body.”

At Marcus Avenue Preschool, students and parents were treated like stars from the moment they arrived. Right as they walked into the lobby, staff greeted families with large photo frames marking the first day of the session, while parents happily posed for photos with their children before hugs and goodbyes.

As students filed into the 19 classrooms, they were carefully guided by their teachers on preschool classroom etiquette, which includes everything from how to store belongings to following a picture schedule.

Here’s to a new school season of full of fun, learning, and growth.
