Another Successful Year at the AHRC Foundation Walk

Fundraising and walking for a great cause

On October 27, Eisenhower Park Field 6A was filled with energy and excitement as the Brookville Center for Children’s Services (BCCS) community joined friends and neighbors to participate in the AHRC Foundation Walk.

Leng Lao and her son Tyler at the AHRC Foundation WalkThis year, the Foundation Walk was held on a perfect brisk fall day. Ahead of the walk, everyone enjoyed the camaraderie of seeing one another while participating in activities like crafts, games, pumpkin picking, and a warm-up set to upbeat music.

“The boys and girls in our program enjoy this event every year,” said Children’s Residential Program Director Sean K. Stallings. “It also provides them an opportunity to catch up with former housemates, classmates, and staff who are also attending the walk. It’s a wonderful social event that is also an opportunity for self-advocacy in support of the services that benefit them.”

Among the top fundraisers from the BCCS community was team Go Ty Ty! Leng Lao and her son Tyler, who attends the Children’s Education Center and resides with the Children’s Residential Program, raised $2,415 together.

Inspired by all the services they use and enjoy, this was Leng and Tyler’s second year walking. In addition to the educational and residential support, Tyler has also enjoyed summer days at Camp Loyaltown.

“If we don’t support the Walk, who else would?” Leng asked. “We are the beneficiaries of all the service provided.”

In their second year of walking, Leng said she and Tyler arrived feeling confident, now knowing what the day of the walk looks like. During the walk, Tyler and Leng enjoyed getting to know the people around them, feeling unified by the same cause.

“I’m proud to say this year we finished the walk,” Leng said. “He was very happy. Next year, I think it will be even better because it will be the third time. It’s all about routine and what’s familiar to Tyler.”

With the support of fundraisers like Leng and Tyler, the AHRC Foundation has surpassed its fundraising goal of $100,000.
