BCCS Education Center Butterfly Release
Thirteen classes at the BCCS Children’s Education Center in Brookville recently had a chance to witness one of the world’s greatest miracles, the journey of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly.
Transitioning students helped lead the initiative by purchasing food for the caterpillars and handing out supplies to the classrooms.
Classrooms received caterpillars, food, and a habitat for the future butterflies to thrive in. As time went by, the students and staff observed the caterpillars as they grew, journaling the amount of time the critters were in their metamorphosis stages, miraculously transforming into a beautiful butterfly inside of a jade green chrysalis.
In the meantime, the classes wrote poems or created artwork inspired by the amazing process that was taking place before their eyes. When it was finally time for the caterpillar-turned butterflies to spread their wings and fly, classes took turns venturing outside for a ceremonious butterfly release.
As calm music played, the transitioning students joined each of the classes as they presented their poetry and artwork. Once the butterflies were released, flying into the next stage of their life, the students were reminded that the butterflies were strong because of the care they received.
