Post Avenue Creates Positive Energy Schoolwide With Bucket Fillers

A BCCS teacher poses with the Bucket Filler artworkAt Post Avenue Preschool, teachers keep students engaged and stimulated all day long. By fostering learning through play, incidental learning, and positive reinforcement, they build lifelong habits.

One activity putting into action this philosophy is the Bucket Filler Challenge. The buckets are created by the students in the first week of school and used throughout the year. Every day, students are rewarded for engaging in positive tasks and actions.  Once filled, students get to pick from the prize box, or “Bucket Filler Treasure Chest” filled with stickers, medals, toys and special posters they can bring home to show what a great job they did.

“The basics are to be kind, helpful, and make good choices,” said Special Education Teacher Concepta “Connie” Neylon-Lorick. “When they fill their buckets, we make it big show of it, we say ‘Oh my gosh, look at what a great choice you just made’ or ‘Wow you’re such a great helper.’”

Across the campus are posters with little reminders of how to fill their buckets. Students can fill their buckets by respecting others, offering to help, and overall doing their best to be positive and friendly classmates. They are also reminded to fill their buckets daily.
